Library Media Center Service Policy
Service to teachers and support staff is promoted by providing resource collections of print and nonprint resources as well as links to resources both within and outside the school that support and enrich the curriculum. Students and staff are instructed in the use of electronic information resources, including RICAT and AskRI.
Service to families is promoted through the school website, PTG meetings, and monthly events. The enjoyment of reading as a lifelong learning skill is supported by personal interaction between the library media specialist and the library user. Booklists, book fairs and book talks support this effort to help students develop a love of reading and the pursuit of information related to personal interests.
Programming focuses on storytelling and beginner computer skills at the lower grade levels and information, technology and media literacy skills for all members of the learning community.
These skills include locating information resources, book selection guidance, and use of information technology resources within and outside of the school. Borrowing privileges are extended to all members of the learning community. While the circulation period is two weeks, the library media center is flexible and will extend the circulation period to help students meet their individual reading and information needs as well as support any classroom research needs.
